our story

Meet Laura Haverkos, accomplished dairy owner and award-winning cheese maker. Skilled at many things, food is Laura's love language, and she takes pride in sharing it with her family and friends. Laura’s always loved making ice cream because it brings joy to people—after all, who doesn't love ice cream?

In 2018, Laura relocated from Nebraska to Georgia to be closer to family, where she soon found herself missing farm life and longing for a creative outlet to share her passion for food and to connect with the local community.

Her husband Jim's solution? "I can't build you a dairy, but I can build you an ice cream shop." With that, they embarked on a journey to bring Laura's passion for sharing good food to life in Fairmount, Georgia. Taking a leap of faith, they opened the Southern Creamery Co. On opening day, the line stretched out the door, and it hasn't slowed down since!

Inspired by cherished family recipes, almost everything in the shop has a nostalgic touch, from Grandma's chocolate cake to Grandpa's beloved cinnamon orange rolls—all made with heart. The entire family shares Laura’s passion for the business: husband Jim expands and renovates the shop, daughter Jamie excels in latte art, and sons Alex and Michael love chatting with guests. Co-owner, daughter and and long time employee, Hannah adds her cake decorating and cheesecake baking skills to the mix, delighting customers old and new.
